‘Wintery Falcon Works’ By Terry Woolliscroft

Wintry Falcon Works – A modern take on a traditional theme.
The two special bottle ovens of the Falcon Works, Sturgess Street, Stoke. These are two of the remaining 47 bottle ovens, which still stand with their chimneys intact, in the Potteries. The ovens are of the special ‘hob-mouthed type.’ Terry enjoyed painting this scene, from his own photo taken in the winter of 1978, using painting knives to layer the acrylic paint and create an interesting relief and feeling of cold weather.

Potteries born Terry Woolliscroft works from his studio in the Staffordshire Moorlands. In the 1960s he was so fascinated by the invention of the new acrylic medium that he was inspired to pick up the brush and paint.

He now draws his inspiration from the rather special landscape of the Potteries of North Staffordshire, and is influenced by local artists Reginald Haggar, Jiri Borsky and Maurice Wade. He also enjoys painting seascapes and still life.

His work can be seen on line and in local galleries. He was privileged to have a solo show at The Foxlowe Art Centre, Leek in 2018, and was selected for the Three Counties Open Art Exhibition, Burslem, in 2019.
